Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule was an Indian social activist, a thinker, anti-caste reformer and writer from Maharashtra. Mahatma Phule “Janmthiti” is his birth anniversary and it is annually held on April 11, 2018. Jyotirao at the age of 22 first taught reading and writing to his wife, Savitribai, and then the couple started the first indigenously run school for girls in Pune in 1848 & played an important role in women’s education in Maharashtra. So, in the remembrance of Mahatma Phule, we celebrated his birth anniversary in Dhole Patil College of Engineering, Pune. Program was witnessed by Secretary Ms. Uma Sagar Dhole Patil, Principal Dr. Nihar Walimbe, HODs and faculties of Dhole Patil College Of Engineering, Pune and they praised his relentless work towards social reform, especially among the women and the youth.
