Significance of The Laboratory :
For a civil engineer fluid mechanics covers a wide variety of problems that practicing civil engineers must understand and solve. When designing infrastructure such as water distribution systems, pumping stations, dams, treatment plants, civil engineers need to understand both fluid statics, and dynamic. The goals of the experiments include determination of forces generated when fluid flow takes place over a solid object, impact of jet on flat plate or curved vane and also determining roughness coefficients, velocity distribution in open channel flow, study of hydraulic jump. The theoretical knowledge given in the subject is properly explained with the help of apparatus in the lab.
