Significance of The Laboratory :

Environmental engineering is the branch of engineering concerned with the application of scientific and engineering principles for protection of human populations from the effects of adverse environmental factors; protection of environments, both local and global, from the potentially deleterious effects of natural and human activities; and improvement of environmental quality. Environmental engineering can also be used for energy preservation, production asset and control of waste from human and animal activities. The environmental engineering lab is very much important as per as the quality analysis of water , wastewater water  and air pollution is concerned. In the analysis of water parameters such as pH, Alkalinity, Total hardness and its components, Chlorides, Chlorine demand and residual chlorine, Sodium or Potassium or Calcium using flame photometer, Turbidity and optimum dose of alum, Most Probable Number (MPN) and Fluorides or Iron are conducted in lab. As per as wastewater analysis is considered parameters such as Solids -Total solids, suspended solids, volatile solids, settleable solids & non settleable solids, Sludge Volume Index, Dissolved oxygen, Bio-Chemical Oxygen Demand, Electrical Conductivity, Determination of Phosphates and Nitrates by spectrophotometer, Determination of heavy metals like Cr6+ or Zn or Ni or Cd. can be found out in the lab. Also the intensity of sound (dB) can be calculated by means of digital sound level meter. Ambient air quality monitoring for PM10, PM 2.5, SO2, NOX can be done.
